Sustainability

An average set of pyjamas is made up of 52 pieces. These pieces are sewn together, pressed, checked and packed by hand. In 2023, 99% of our products came from GOTS and Oeko-Tex certified mills and BSCI or SedEx certified factories.

All Things Considered

to unstitch the acronyms

GOTS is the Global Organic Textile Standard. A GOTS audit assesses the supply chain to ensure traceability of the organic fibre from the harvesting through to the weaving / dyeing / printing processes.

OEKO-TEX is a certification for mills, ensuring their fabrics do not contain any harmful chemicals, for our benefit and for the environment.

BSCI and SEDEX ensure supply chains operate with a uniform high standard of ethical & responsible conduct.

We have a global network of factories who we select based on their specialist areas as well as cultural fit for D&D. They are a big part of our team and how they work is just as important as what they do. We produce our cotton pyjamas and accessories in Portugal and India, where both locations have a long history in woven, cotton products. We produce our silk products in China who are recognised as specialists in silk. Our wool blanket is made in Italy by experts with over 70 years experience.

We choose to print digitally over using screen printing as it halves water and power consumption as well as limiting chemical waste. Our sustainable buttons are made from the corozo plant. The linen we use is not yet organic (as we continue our search for the softest possible) but we are working towards a Master of Linen certification.

All our shippers, gift boxes and kraft mailers are FSC recycled paper stock. All of the packaging products — even the gift boxes which use a soft touch varnish finishing rather than non-recyclable laminate — can then ideally be reused for a little while before they are recycled at home.

Looking forward

In 2023 we became a B Corp certified business, meaning we have joined a handful of other companies verified to the highest level of accountability, transparency and sustainability. Being a B-Corp means we are legally and morally committed to prioritising our responsibility to the environment and society.

We remain incredibly conscious of the impact of our industry and dedicated to continuous improvement.
